KCET Marks vs Rank 2026: Official 50:50 Board Marks weightage analysis

KCET 2026 Marks vs Rank

Analyze the expected correlation between your KCET entrance marks (out of 180) and your final merit rank. Remember: Your 2nd PUC Board Marks contribute exactly 50% to your final rank.

Expected Marks vs Rank Table

Based on 90%+ Board PCM average. If board marks are lower, the rank will drop significantly.

The Board Marks Multiplier

KCET ranks are NOT based on entrance score alone. KEA follows a 50:50 weightage system. Every 1% drop in your Board PCM percentage (Board marks / 300) is equivalent to a loss of approximately 1.5 marks in the KCET exam.

Pro Tip:

If you have 95% in boards, you can get a top 1000 rank even with 130 marks. But with 80% in boards, even 150 marks might not get you into the top 2000!

KCET Rank Methodology FAQs

How exactly is the KCET rank calculated?

The Merit Rank is determined by taking 50% of your performance in the KCET Entrance Exam (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) and 50% of your 2nd PUC / Class 12th Board PCM marks. Both are normalized to a scale of 100 before averaging.

What is a safe score for a top 5,000 rank in KCET?

Generally, if you have a 95%+ Board average, a KCET score of 125-135 is sufficient for a top 5,000 rank. If your board marks are around 85%, you may need a much higher CET score (145+) to achieve the same rank.

Does KEA consider only 2nd PUC marks or 1st PUC as well?

For the 50:50 rank calculation, KEA only considers the 'Theory' marks obtained in the 2nd PUC (or equivalent Class 12) Board Examinations. 1st PUC marks are not used for merit ranking.

What happens if two students get the same merit score?

KEA uses a tie-breaker hierarchy: (1) Higher marks in Maths, (2) Higher marks in Physics, (3) Higher marks in Chemistry, and finally, (4) The older candidate is given preference by date of birth.
