Frequently Asked Questions
How does the JoSAA College Predictor work?
The tool uses official JoSAA 2025 Opening and Closing Ranks from all 6 rounds. Enter your JEE rank, select your category, gender, and institute type - the predictor instantly shows all IITs and NITs where your rank falls within the closing cutoff.
Which rank should I use - CRL or Category Rank?
It depends on the institute type: For IITs, use your JEE Advanced Rank. For NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, use your JEE Main Rank. In both cases, if you belong to a reserved category, use your Category Rank for accurate results. Our tool now has a toggle to switch between Main and Advanced mode.
What do AI, HS, and OS quotas mean in the predictor?
These are JoSAA Quotas: 'AI' (All India) is open to everyone (used by IITs/IIITs). 'HS' (Home State) reserves 50% seats in NITs for locals of that state. 'OS' (Other State) is for the remaining 50%. Specialty quotas like 'JK' (Jammu & Kashmir) and 'LA' (Ladakh) provide dedicated seats for those regions.
What do Safe, Moderate, and Ambitious badges mean?
Safe means your rank is significantly better (>20%) than the closing cutoff - high chance of admission. Moderate means you're within 5-20% of the cutoff - good chance but not guaranteed. Ambitious means you're very close to the cutoff (<5%) - possible but competitive.
How is the female supernumerary quota applied in JoSAA?
The Female-only seat pool has separate closing ranks which are often significantly more relaxed to promote gender diversity in IITs and NITs. Select the 'Female-only' option in our predictor to see the specific relaxed cutoffs for these seats.
What rank is required to get Computer Science (CSE) at IIT Bombay?
For the General (Gender-Neutral) category, the Round 6 closing rank for CSE at IIT Bombay is typically under 60-70. For other top IITs like Delhi, Madras, and Kanpur, CSE closes within AIR 100-250.
Can I get an IIT with a rank above 15,000?
Yes, newer IITs (e.g., IIT Dharwad, IIT Palakkad, IIT Jammu) or specialized branches (e.g., Materials Science, Mining, or 5-year Integrated Dual Degrees) often have Round 6 closing ranks going up to 16,000-18,000 for the General category, and even higher for reserved categories.
Does the predictor show IIITs and GFTIs?
The tool is built to support all participating institutes (IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs). Currently, data is available for all IITs and NITs. IIIT and GFTI data is being actively synced-ensure you select individual rounds to see the latest trends for these institutes.
How do cutoffs change across rounds?
JoSAA cutoffs generally decrease (become more lenient) from Round 1 to Round 6 as seats are vacated by candidates who accept or withdraw. The tool shows all 6 rounds' closing ranks for each program so you can see the trend.
