COMEDK Option Entry FAQs & Counselor Answers

Direct answers to critical COMEDK choice filling questions to protect your ₹2.5L+ fee investment.

When does COMEDK 2026 option entry / choice filling start?
Based on the current COMEDK schedule, choice filling is expected to open around June 25 – July 5, 2026, following document verification approval. Always confirm on the official COMEDK portal.
Can I add new colleges to my COMEDK list in Round 2?
No. Under COMEDK rules, you cannot add fresh college options in Round 2. You can only reorder, modify, or delete existing choices from Round 1. Build a comprehensive list of 30-50+ choices in Round 1 itself.
What is the penalty for surrendering a COMEDK seat after the window?
Surrendering or forfeiting a COMEDK seat after the official withdrawal window carries severe financial penalties. Candidates forfeit their entire seat deposit — typically ₹2.5–2.8 Lakhs — and may be debarred from subsequent rounds.
How does the COMEDK allotment algorithm work?
COMEDK uses a sequential top-down allotment system identical to KCET. Starting from your Choice #1, the system checks if your rank qualifies for each preference in order. The first matching choice gets tentatively locked; all preferences below it are deleted for that round.
What is Choice 2 (Hold & Upgrade) in COMEDK?
If you select Choice 2 after Round 1, COMEDK holds your allotted seat in reserve while you participate in Round 2 for higher-preference options. You must pay the full annual fee to hold the seat. If nothing better is allotted in Round 2, you retain your Round 1 seat.
Does COMEDK have a domicile or state reservation quota?
No. COMEDK is a General Merit (GM) examination open to all Indian nationals. There are no Karnataka domicile reservations. Seats are allocated purely by COMEDK rank across all applicants. COMEDK fee is higher than KCET government-quota seats for this reason.
Should I do both KCET and COMEDK option entry?
Yes, if you have both rank cards. KCET (KEA) and COMEDK run on completely parallel timelines and separate portals. Participating in both maximizes your chance of getting into a top Karnataka engineering college. Use StepVista's separate KCET and COMEDK optimizers to build independent priority lists.
What is the StepVista COMEDK optimizer?
Our optimizer uses calibrated 2025 COMEDK cutoff data to match colleges to your rank. You can swipe through matched options, drag-and-drop to build a priority list, and auto-sort by our algorithm. No phone number or email required — 100% anonymous.
