• Analysis: This is a seismic shift. On average, core engineering branches closed 34,000 ranks earlier than they did last year. A nearly 40% tightening means that last year’s safe fallback options in Mechanical and Civil are completely gone in 2026.

2. College Tier Analysis: The Bangalore Premium

We segmented the colleges to isolate Bangalore/Top-Tier institutes (including R V, BMS, PES, Ramaiah, etc.) against Regional/Tier-2 colleges. The data shows a massive consolidation of high rankers aggressively targeting Bangalore brand names, regardless of the branch.

• Average Percentage Shift: -6.8%
• Analysis: While regional colleges also got harder to enter, the shift was a much more modest 6.8%. This presents a massive arbitrage opportunity for smart option entry strategies.
